Chaucer’s on Carling St. at Talbot
I love this place. I go here all the time. Fire place, rosewood bar, warm lights, spacious patio, private yet central downtown location: it’s too lovely.
With over 75 different beers to select from (12 on draft), Chaucer’s is not for the teetotaler. Nor is it for those who lack a palatte for the finer things, as manager Milos Krall (quoting famous beer aficianado, Michael Jackson) displays his disgust for domestic’s; “beer that sells to everyone must not offend anyone and therefore delights no one!” In fact, I give you the 100% certified Anecdotia garuantee that you will find a beer you like here. Even if you detest beer, turning your nose up and scrunching your forehead at the very mention of the word…like, ahem, i do. Not only did I find a beer I like at Chaucer’s, I found two: Bellevue – a cherry infused Belgian import, and Pink Killer – the infamous, sweet grapefruit flavoured micro-brew.* Not to neglect mentioning the impressive smooth flowing selection of red’s they also stock.
Also worth trying is the food. Particularly the daily soup selections, which have included blends like Tomato Dill and Yam and Roasted Red Pepper. The Calamari is some of the best in the city and perfect for munching with friends along with a side of Potato Salad. As for mains, the veggie stir-fry is colourful and delicious, with lots of yellow and green zucchini. The real kicker on the menu, however, is the Warm Spinach Salad. I have had it approximately 200 times so far and I will have it another 200 hundred times easily. It’s not your average spinach salad, this has goat cheese, 3 kinds of sweet peppers, muchrooms, and…wait for it…baby potatoes.
Chaucer’s makes London better.
5 hearts out of 5:
*Editing revision: actually, now I’ve found three beers I like at Chaucer’s. The third being the brand new Jenjain gingembre blonde biere. That’s right, folks: ginger. beer.
