The Image: sunset, concrete race-track, fast cars, cute drivers, and a black and white checkered flag waving furiously in the wind as children roll around in dirt with ice cream caked in their hair and my girlfriends and I cheer and clap and wave our scarves

The Sound: zooooooom, (“ooooooo”) followed by screeeeeeech (“ahhhhhhh”), followed by smaaaaaaash (“eeeeeeee”)...also, listen for the live play-by-play commentary and pit-side interviews: “wow, looks like his fuel tank is in flames down there…well, at least it looks cool!”

The Smell: burning rubber, burning oil, burning gas, testosterone

The Food: cotton candy and hot chocolate (it gets cold)

The Afterparty: beer, damage surveillance, and shop-talking down in the pits…if you smile you can sit in the car
