...but I haven’t got a stitch to wear – Morrissey

In the 80s, performance artist Leigh Bowery would invite his friends over to his London flat for breakfast. They would spend the rest of the day designing and constructing outrageous outfits to wear to the clubs that night. But by midnight they would all be so thoroughly exhausted with the preparations for getting ready that they wouldn’t even go out! I can’t say I blame them. I’ve often reflected on how the act of getting dressed to go out is the best part of an evening. The anticipation of a night out always far exceeds the monotony and disappointment of actually being in the club. To this end, my girlfriends and I have devised our own routine, usually taking at least several hours in the afternoon, drinking homemade wine, rooting through each other’s closets, and comming up with matching outfits to wear for the night. Now, we’re nowhere near Leigh Bowery’s level of ridiculousness, but damn does it ever make things more fun & creative.
