Junior Boys appeared at Call the Office in London on 06/07/07

Nothing like softly dancing to a little smooth euphoria on a hot and sticky ontario evening. Live show aside (I’ll get to that in a second here), the Junior Boys tunes stand on their own with their angelic video game bleeps and understated heartbeating bass bumps. Their rhythms have a way of pulling you in, putting a tripped smile on your face, lifting your hands in the air, and keeping your hair tossing around…gently. Nonetheless, last night’s live show left me slightly underwhelmed. Where were the lights? We got none. Nothing. And lights seem like such a simple and obvious accessory to the JB sound so it felt like they were slightly underdressed all night. The show was also way too short. I mean, 30 minutes??? Come ON. What kind of gig ends before midnight??? Even if it’s shitty London in the summer the JB have a live reputation that they should be conscious of maintaining regardless of the venue or the size of the crowd. Especially since it was a GOOD crowd (albeit small), most of which was familiar with the albums and dying to dance all night long. It kind of made me think; “fuckers”. I was just getting started.
