The Runt Club is the best bar in London. It is the best place to use as a regular 10pm meeting spot for friends. It is the best place to talk and listen and exclaim and make faces over copious numbers of strongbow and gin (or whatever). The Runt Club has the best patio, totally suited to letting the summer nights soak into your skin; totally suited to watching people walk by; and totally suited to both making and discussing social history. The staff are the friendliest, most unpretentious people anywhere – remembering your name after one introduction and always making a point of saying “hello” when you come in. It should also be noted that the Runt Staff all exercise an almost heroic discretion. I mean, these people know everything and have seen everything and have heard everything about everyone, yet never reveal even a trace of judgement, nor do they ‘kiss & tell’, so to speak. The food is delicious and goes way beyond what you would ordinarily expect for pub fare. I recommend the calimari, the mushroom skillet, and the bagel skins for snacks but you should also head there for dinner one night because the salads, pastas, and pizzas are all worth every penny. In many ways, the Runt Club ingratiates itself as a second home. A sweet spot in the centre of the city. The best spot in the centre of the city.
